Richard Brodie, who was York City`s two-goal hero in the FA Cup victory over Coca-Cola League Two side Crewe Alexandra last Saturday, went one better on Tuesday.
The Minstermen retained their unbeaten home record this season against bottom-markers Chester City in the only Blue Square Premier game of the night.
Brodie opened his account inside the opening minute, firing a close-range effort past City keeper John Danby.
He doubled the home side`s lead after 32 minutes from the penalty spot after a foul by Neil Ashton before netting a third 2 minutes into the second half to take his tally for the season to date to seventeen.
Chester came back into the game just before the hour-mark when Anthony Barry fired a 30-yard effort past a stunned Michael Ingham.
The Cestrians continued to push forward as York took their foot of the gas, but despite Shaun Kelly's injury-time header, the hosts hung on to move to within a point of the play-off places.
