A 21-year-old York City fan was arrested at KitKat Crescent prior to Saturday’s Blue Square Premier game against Crawley Town for fraud and forgery offences.
The individual, who is a current season ticket holder, was found in possession of eighteen forged tickets for the forthcoming Kettering Town and Cambridge United home fixtures.
Three other males were also each found to be in possession of a forged ticket for Saturday’s game and these were confiscated by the Police before the individuals attempted to gain entry into the ground.
York City Football Club was aware forged student tickets were in circulation after ten tickets were found to have been used to enter KitKat Crescent at the Histon game on Saturday, 29th August.
The Police were immediately alerted to the situation, along with the Club’s stewards and turnstile operators.
Commenting on the situation communications and community director, Sophie Hicks said: “We are extremely angry and disappointed by these events. This individual, who claims to be supporter, has been depriving the club of valuable income in a time of recession when we are faced with a reduction in commercial revenue and we have volunteers fundraising to keep our youth team going. We will be immediately withdrawing the individual’s season ticket and he could receive a ban from the club depending on further communication with the Police and the courts.”
The club confirmed that entry to the ground will only be given to season ticket holders on production of their season ticket book.
Forged tickets for the Kettering and Cambridge games may be in circulation. If anyone has bought one of these tickets, please do not try to gain entry to the ground as this action could result in a ban from York City Football Club.
