23 September 2009 10:03:00

Blue Square Premier leaders Oxford United went down to their first defeat of the season against Mansfield Town at Field Mill on Tuesday night.

The U`s were beaten by two goals in the space of just 4 first half minutes. Skipper Ryan Williams scored the first before setting up striker Jake Speight for number two.

Oxford top scorer James Constable pulled one back with his ninth goal of the season 17 minutes from time to give the leaders hope - but they failed to add to it.

Petar Rnkovic scored on his debut as struggling Grays Athletic held in-form Stevenage Borough to a 1-1 draw at Broadhall Way.

Rnkovic, who was only given international clearance hours before the kick-off, gave the Essex outfit a 14th minute lead.

Lee Boylan equalised for Stevenage on 32 minutes, but Grays, who had conceded ten goals in their last three games, managed to hold on in the second half to end Boro's six-game winning streak.

Kettering Town maintained their strong start to the season with a 2-1 home win against Barrow.

Barrow took the lead after 12 minutes through Jon Shaw, but the Poppies were level by the half-hour, when Francis Green was tripped in the box and Moses Ashikodi slotted home from the spot.

John Dempster's powerful header 5 minutes before the break then won it from Lee Fowler's corner

Victory came at a cost for the Poppies, who lost Andre Boucaud to injury just before what proved to be their winning goal.

In-form Tamworth took their unbeaten run to six Blue Square Premier games but were held to a goalless draw against Altrincham at Moss Lane as were another in-form side, Rushden & Diamonds, at the International Stadium by Gateshead.

Liam Enver-Marum bagged a brace as Eastbourne Borough recorded their first win in four games against Hayes & Yeading United at Priory Lane.

An own goal Matt Ruby gave the home side the lead just before the break and Enver-Marum doubled Boro's lead 4 minutes after the interval with a low shot before doubling his tally on 54 minutes.

Sean Canham pulled a goal back for the visitors with a close-range finish 119 minutes from the end.

Former Ebbsfleet United striker Michael Gash hit a brace as York City fought back from a goal behind to draw 2-2 with in-form Cambridge United at the KitKat Crescent.

Gash put York ahead in the 32nd minute with a close-range finish. But, with 12 minutes remaining, Jai Reason levelled the scores to set up a thrilling finale.

Mark Beesley then put the visitors ahead 8 minutes from time before Gash's late header secured a point for the Minstermen.

Gareth Taylor helped ease the pressure on under-fire boss Dean Saunders as his double inspired Wrexham to their first win in four games at the Racecourse Ground against fancied Luton Town.

The former Wales striker opened the scoring from the penalty spot after just 5 minutes following Claude Gnakpa's foul on Marc Williams.

Taylor's sixth of the season doubled the lead on 20 minutes when his header looped in from 15 yards.

Mark Jones completed the win 5 minutes from time.

Forest Green Rovers scored their first goal under new boss Dave Hockaday as they secured their fourth draw in a row against Kidderminster Harriers at the New Lawn.

Harriers took the lead after 15 minutes through Chris McPhee. Matthew Barnes-Homer thern went close to doubling the lead but could only put his right-foot volley over the bar. But, after having a shot cleared off the line, Sean Rigg levelled the scores 8 minutes into the second half.

James Kedwell hit his ninth goal of the season as AFC Wimbledon came from behind to earn a 1-1 draw against Crawley Town at Kingsmeadow.

Kedwell had an early chance to put the Dons in front only to be denied by visiting keeper Simon Rayner. But Crawley took the lead against the run of play 8 minutes before the break when Jefferson Louis beat James Pullen with a free kick from the edge of the area.

Sam Hatton hit the bar before Kedwell headed home Chris Hussey's cross to level matters 15 minutes from time.

Histon midfielder Josh Simpson grabbed a late winner against Ebbsfleet United at the Glassworld Stadium.

Simpson should have scored in the first attack of the second half only for Danny Naisbitt to save with his feet. But,8 minutes from time, just when the game looked set for a draw, great work from Nathaniel Knight-Percival broke the deadlock.

He broke clear down the left before firing in a low cross which Simpson turned in from close range to give Histon all three points.

Bottom-markers Chester City wasted a great chance to claim their first away win of the season from an uninspiring contest at the Raymond McEnhill Stadium against Salisbury City.

After missing two chances himself, Chester`s Kevin Roberts turned provider to set up Ben Wilkinson for his third goal of the season with only 12 minutes remaining.

But Sean Clohessy levelled from Luke Ruddick's cross just 2 minutes later.

And, to add injury to insult, Cestrians` keeper John Danby was forced off in the process, being replaced by summer signing Andrew Murphy.
