Alfreton Town manager Nicky Law is looking for his side to build on last Saturday’s FA Cup victory and kick on in the league.
The Reds comfortably disposed of AFC Wulfrunians 6-0 to set up a tough Third Qualifying Round home tie against fellow Blue Square North promotion-chasers Southport a week on Saturday at the Impact Arena.
Before that though, Law’s side travel for an equally tough Blue Square North game at Blyth Spartans in the North East this Saturday.
And Law is wanting his team to firmly put behind them the 5-3 defeat at home to Stalybridge Celtic in their last league outing and a victory will give themselves the chance to climb into the top five.
He said: “The game at Blyth is going to be a tough one, it always is. You have got a long journey and you know what you are in for.
“They have got good players but they are playing a bit more football under manager Mick Tait and hopefully, with it being their home game, they will come out and have a go at us which may suit us.
“We need to bounce back from the Stalybridge defeat though and we will have to stand strong, especially in defence, and we need to give it our best shot to get anything.”
Law will wait until Thursday night’s training session before assessing Matt Wilson’s fitness. The defender picked up a groin strain against Stalybridge and Law thinks he may need more time.
“We are mindful of Matt’s injury at the moment. By the time we get to Blyth he will have had a fortnight’s rest on it, but we will have to see.
“We did a professional job in the FA Cup and won well although it could have been far more convincing with better finishing. We can still be sharper all round, something we are going to need at Blyth.”
