19 September 2009 18:29:00

Adam Birchall scored twice to help Dover Athletic to a one-point lead at the top of the Blue Square South table on Saturday.

Birchall broke the deadlock at Crabble against Bath City after 65 minutes and then scored again deep into injury-time after Darren Edwards had equalised seconds earlier.

Newport County are second after a 29th minute Sam Foley goal eventually proved enough at Kingfield against Woking, who missed a penalty just before the break.

Lewes also missed from twelve yards and were also made to pay at the Dripping Pan by Maidenhead United.

David Wheeler gave the Rooks a 26th minute lead that should have been extended from the spot before Kieron St Aime equalised on 53 minutes and then Sam Collins won it for the Magpies 13 mknutes from the end.

Thurrock continue to surprise a few by being third after a 2-1 win at Worcester City in which Paul Olima on 36 minutes and Leon McKenzie on the hour proved too much for City, whose only reply was an 83rd minute Craig Wilding penalty.

Tom Jordan scored twice as Eastleigh beat Chelmsford City 3-1 at the Sparshatts Stadium after Danny Hockton had given the visitors a 2nd minute lead.

Anthony Riviere sandwiched Jordan`s efforts just before half time.

Charlie Sheringham gave Bishop`s Stortford a 26th minute lead at home to Dorchester Town and Duane Jackman made sure with a second 10 minutes from time, and Basingstoke Town won 2-1 at Cressing Road against Braintree Town with Steve Laidler opening their account after 6 minutes and Jahson Downes adding a second 6 minutes after the break, although George Purcell did manage a reply 9 minutes later.

Weymouth`s Martin Slocombe bagged a brace – but sadly for him and the Terras it was at the wrong end as they went down to a 3-0 defeat at home to St Albans City, whose other scorer was Solomon Shields.

Tom Whitnell broke the deadlock at Park Viwe Road by putting Welling United ahead 17 minutes from time against Weston-super-Mare.

Jack Crompton equalised 7 minutes later but two goals in the final 2 minutes from Jack Parkinson and Dean Cracknell won it for the Wings.

Barriw Matthews` 64th minute penalty gave Hampton & Richmond Borough the lead at Westleigh Park against Havant & Waterlooville, who earned a point through Steve Hutchings 10 minutes from time.

New signing Ali Chaaban became an instant Staines Town heo upon his return to the Swans, netting a stoppage time penalty equaliser after Gareth Williams and Rob Gillman had out Bromley 2-1 up – Richard Butler having opened the scoring after 13 minutes.
