Monday`s Blue Square Bet South Review...
17 August 2010 10:15:00

Chelmsford City sent a message out to the rest of the Blue Square Bet South on Monday night.

First half strikes from Ben Nunn, Sam Higgins and Dave Rainford gave them a second successive win in front of a crowd of 948 at Melbourne against Woking.

City could hardly have hoped for a better start to proceedings when visiting keeper Lennie Pidgely, who had suffered a mishap to concede embarrassingly at the weekend, followed suit when wandering from goal on 9 minutes and Nunn threaded home from the wide right position to put Chelmsford in front.

Barely 6 minutes later the hosts were in dreamland when a flick-on from diminutive winger Takumi Ake sent Higgins away to coolly ram low and left-footed past the exposed Pidgely for the second.

Woking were in tatters by this stage and it was no surprise when the Clarets added another in the 22nd minute, this time owing a little to fortune.

Matthew Lock’s deep corner was headed back onto the face of the crossbar by Adam Tann and Rainford was perfectly positioned to pick up the pieces with a header of his own from close range.

Beyond half time it was always likely to be a more low-key affair, the only flash point coming when the Cards` Aswad Thomas was dismissed for a bad foul on 62 minutes.

In the other game played on Monday night, Havant & Waterlooville and Weston-super-Mare were involved in a goalless stalemate at Westleigh Park in front of 732 fans.

The Seagulls had won their opening game last Saturday and came to the Hawks determined not to lose, making it a disappoining spectacle overall.

It was a second successive draw for Havant, who shared a 2-2 draw at Dartford on the opening day.
