First Wins for Rooks and Fleet
19 August 2010 09:12:00

None of the four teams playing in the Blue Square Bet South on Wednesday night had won on the opening day, with only Thurrock managing to pick up anything – a point from their 2-2 home draw with St Albans City.

However, both Ebbsfleet United and Lewes managed three-point hauls from their matches on Wednesday to get themselves up and running.

A last-minute Michael West strike condemned Farnborough to their second consecutive defeat at home to Ebbsfleet.

Boro fell behind after 37 minutes when Callum Willock slotted the ball coolly past Michael Jordan in the home goal.

The hosts then pulled themselves back into the game on 67 minutes when Dean McDonald grabbed the equaliser.

However, just a minute from time, West won it for the Kent side with a great strike from the edge of the area.

Lewes opened their account for 2010/11 as they ran out 2-1 winners at the Dripping Pan against Thurrock.

The Rooks produced an impressive first half display and were rewarded with the breakthrough on 25 minutes when Lewis Ide headed into the net from just inside the area.

The second goal came on 63 minutes when the experienced Simon Wormull saw visiting goalkeeper Andre Charles-Smith off his line and chipped him from fully forty-odd yards.

Within a minute the advantage was halved as Cliff Akurang replied for the Essex outfit, who nearly snatched a point when Kenny Clark headed against a post late on.
