Saturday`s Blue Square Bet North Review...
21 August 2010 17:39:00

AFC Telford United, Boston United, Alfreton Town and Workington all possess maximum points from their opening three Blue Square Bet North games, with the top three all making it eleven goals for – with only Alfreton conceding any.

On Saturday Telford won 5-0 at Gainsborough Trinity, with Phil Trainer opening the scoring after 20 minutes and Ben Mills adding a second just before half time.

Carl Rodgers made it 3-0 with 10 minutes of the second half gone and Alex Meechan on 62 minutes and Liam Murray with 11 minutes remaining, made it nap for Andy Sinton`s side.

Redditch United 0 – 9 Boston United – it would seem that the home side must surely have been reduced to nine or at least ten men?

But no, the Reds simply had no answer to the newly-promoted Pilgrims, who started off well when Danny Davidson gave them a 4th minute lead.

Shaun Pearson then bagged a brace on 16 and 23 minutes and Anthony Church on 34 minutes and Miles Hunter on 43, made it 5-0 at half time.

Church swiftly added number six 4 minutes after the break and then Spencer Weir-Daley (56 minutes), Davidson again (85) and Ryan Semple (88) completed the rout.

Alfreton also went nap away from home, but they also conceded one to Hyde at Ewen Fields.

Chris Shaw opened the scoring after 5 minutes and less than 3 minutes later it was 2-0 through Aden Flint.

It all went a little quiet then until the final 7 minutes when the visiting Reds added three more from Anthony Wilson, with two, and Liam Hearn.

Shaun Vipond scored both of Workington`s goals as they won 2-0 at Coronation Park against Eastwood Town.

Vipond opened the scoring a minute after half time and his second came with 15 minutes to go.

Harrogate Town beat Solihull Moors 2-o at Wetherby Road with goals from Liam Hardy after 10 minutes and Graeme Armstrong on 66, while Hinckley United gained their first win by beating Stalybridge Celtic 5-2 at home – after being 2-0 up!

Goals from Jody Banim in the 2nd minute and Phil Marsh on 47 minutes gave Celtic their advantage, but Connor Franklin and Gary King pulled the Knitters back on terms with two quickfire goals just after the break and then Jamie Reid bagged a brace and Gavin Strachan one as the hosts completed the comeback.

Worcester City ensured Vauxhall Motors remain point-less after three games by winning by the odd goal in five at Rivacre Road.

Josh Wilson actually gave Motors a 7th minute lead that Mark Danks evelled 4 minutes later.

Danks again on 26 minutes and Danny Glover on 34 then gave City a 3-1 cushion before Brian Moogan`s spot-kick pulled the home side back into the game 19 minutes before time.

Corby Town had to settle for a point from their visit to Blyth Spartans after enduring a freak ending to the game that then became a nightmare.

The Steelmen were leading 1-0 through Ben Mackey's third goal in as many games and seemingly poised to maintain their 100 per cent start.

But then on 82 minutes, Steelmen substitute Andy Gooding was shown a straight red card following what appeared to be an incident involving the assistant referee.

Confusion reigned as Gooding was dismissed but worse was to follow for Corby as Blyth midfielder Stephen Turnbull then lashed home the equaliser with 2 minutes left.

Spartans hadn't looked like scoring before that but the home side might even have won it thereafter as both Dan Groves and Stephen Harrison both went close in injury-time.

It also finished 1-1 at Liberty Way between Nuneaton Town and Droylsden, whose Nat Kerr equalised 17 minutes from time after Lee Moore had given Boro the lead 3 minjtes into the second half.

Jamie Walshaw bagged a brace for new boys Guiseley as they shared a 2-2 draw at Marston Road against Stafford Rangers, whose Chris Sterling and Tom Clarke were on the mark.
