Saturday`s Blue Square Bet North Review....
28 August 2010 18:12:00

Alfreton Town remain the only team in Blue Square Bet North with a 100 per cent record following Saturday`s round of matches.

Jake Moult gave the visiting Reds an earl 3rd minute lead at Croft Park against Blyth Spartans and an own goal by Michael Tait on 25 mintes doubled their lead.

However, an own goal at the opposite end, this time by Aden Flint gave the winless hosts a lifeline 4 minutes later.

Two second half penalties were both converted to secure victory - Moult with the first on 55 minutes after Paul Clayton was brought down by Spartans` keeper Jake Cunningham and Liam Hearn with the second on 76 minutes after Anthony Wilson had been fouled by Chris Swailes.

AFC Telford United and Workington both lost their 100 per cent record, both recording draws – Telford a goalless encounter at the Valley Stadium to give Redditch United their first point and clean sheet of the season, and Workington 1-1 at Gainsborough Trinity, whose new on-loan signing, Andrew Milne, denied the visitors with an equaliser 2 minutes from time after David Hewson hadgiven them a 24th minute lead.

Boston United are fourth and they hammered Harrogate Town 6-3 at Wetherby Road, thanks to an unbelievable first half burst of goals!

Shaun Pearson gave the newly-promoted Pilgrims the lead after 12minutes and then Richard Pell`s 18th minute own goal, Jamie Yates (20 minutes) and Anthony Church (23) made it virtually game over already!

Liam Hardy reduced the arrears a couple of minutes later only for Spencer Weir-Daley to add Bostons fifth after 32 minutes.

Adam Nowakowski pulled another back for the hosts on 39 minutes but Ryan Semple made it an amazing 6-2 at HALF TIME by netting a sixth right on the whistle.

The 447 crowd may as well have gone home then as they only witnessed a Liam Hardy effort for Town 15 minutes from time in the second period!

Eastwood Town gained their first win of the season and at the same time inflicted Corby Town`s first defeat at Coronation Park

The home side went into the game on the back of four straight defeats but it was the Steelmen who looked short of ideas on the day.

Glenn Walker put the visitors ahead on 12 minutes with a low shot across the keeper.

However, the Steelmen then lost their way and allowed the Badgers back into it on 20 minutes with a poor goal from Corby's point of view as everyone stood still while Adam Muller was able to glance home a header.

Eastwood visibly grew in confidence but their second goal, on the stroke of half time, was another bad one from Corby's perspective as Matt Rhead was allowed to outjump two defenders and the keeper to head home.

Corby needed to start the second half well but instead it was the Badgers who looked more likely to increase their lead.

Lee Moore gave Nuneaton Town the lead 5 minutes before half time at Liberty Way against Stalybridge Celtic.

Kyle Storer doubled Boro`s lead just before the hour-mark, with Gareth Jennings` 73rd minute effort all Celtic were able to muster in reply.

Solihull Moors are on nine points after beating Gloucester City 2-1 at Damson Park.

A Ryan Beswick penalty a couple of minutes before the break gave Moors a boost and just 2 minutes after the half time cuppas Adam Cunnington added the home side`s second.

Darren Mullins reduced the deficit with 3 minutes to go, but it ended up being a mere consolation for the Tigers.

Matt Birley gave visiting Worcester City a 16th minute lead at Marston Road against Stafford Rangers.

However, Chris Sterling equalised 10 minutes into the second half to eventually earn a share of the spoils.

It ended all-square at the remaining three matches as well.

Obi Anorou gave Vauxhall Motors a 9th minute lead at home to Guiseley, whose Warren Peyton levelled 7 minutes before the interval.

Josh Wilson restored Motors` advantage 4 minutes after the break, but Darryn Stamp earned the newly-promoted visitors a point with an 88th minute equaliser.

At Ewen Fields, Scott Mooney gave hosts Hyde FC a 9th minute lead. But visiting Ilkeston Town earned a draw with a 52nd minute penalty ffrom Amari Morgan-Smith.

And Hyde`s neighbours Droylsden had a similar outcome in Leicestershire against Hinckley United, whose Jamie Reid gave them a 20th minute lead that Luke Holden cancelled out on 66 minutes.
