Former Newcastle United reserves and academy coach Adam Sadler has been installed as Blue Square Premier club Gateshead`s assistant-manager and first-team coach.
The 30-year-old spent seven years on the coaching staff at St.James' Park before an ill-fated move to Norwich City resulted in a return to his native North East.
Sadler joined the Canaries as first team coach but lost his job within a month when former Newcastle boss Glenn Roeder was sacked.
Eight months as Mick Tait`s number two at Blyth Spartans followed before he ended the season at Team Northumbria.
Sadler said: "I've been waiting for my chance to get back into the full-time game and for it come at a progressive club like Gateshead is a great opportunity.
"I already knew manager Ian Bogie and there are several players at Gateshead who came through the ranks at Newcastle while I was there.
"The only way is up for Gateshead. They are an established club with huge potential, especially with a new stadium in the offing, and having just gone full time.
"My philosophy will not be much different from Ian's but as a coach I'll be looking for us to be hard to beat and well organised.
"The style will hopefully continue to be easy on the eye but we have got to get the balance right and do our job when we have and haven't got the ball."
Sadler replaces the departed Jeff Wrightson, who was unable to take up a full-time post and the Tynesiders` twenty-two-man squad will be fully professional.
Bogie said: "It is a case of full time or nothing regarding the playing staff and I am delighted to have such a highly regarded coach as Adam Sadler as my number two.
"He is one of the few coaches in the region with a UEFA Pro licence which is necessary to manage in the Premier League.
"He has been involved in the pro game at Newcastle and, briefly, at Norwich City and was close to getting the Blackburn Rovers reserves job.
"His contacts in both the professional and non-League game are good and it is an exciting appointment and one that will help to drive the club forward."
Gateshead's application to join the totesport.com Central League meanwhile has been successful with Paul Bryson appointed as reserve manager whilst also having coaching duties with the first-team.
The Tynesiders` second string will go in with the likes of Leeds United, Middlesbrough and Huddersfield Town next season and stage home games on a Monday night.
