Four More Agree to Stay
06 May 2010 11:59:00

Worcester City manager Carl Heeley has secured the services of four more players for next season after Shabir Khan, Matt Birley, Rob Elvins and joint player of the year Graham Ward all agreed terms for next season.

They join Gary Walker, Mark Clyde and Jason Pike in committing themselves to City for the 2010/11 campaign.

Goalkeeper Jake Meredith has been released. He was on holiday when the rest of last season's squad were informed of the manager's intentions. Heeley said: "Jake was injured at the start of the season which didn't allow him the greatest of starts but once he got into the side he did well.

"The loss of form he suffered later in the season was crucial and led me to bring in Danzelle St. Louis-Hamilton in February as a replacement. When Jake got his place back he did well again but over the season the required consistency wasn't there. We have parted on very amicable terms and I'd like to thank him for his contribution at Worcester City and I shall do anything I can to help him as he looks for a new club.

"I shall be attending the Football League exit trials next week with Mark Clyde to run the rule over a number of players who have now become available. We are also looking to put on a couple of trial games in pre-season although these will have to take place away from Saint George's Lane because of work being carried out at the ground.

"I have also spoken to a number of targets who are now considering their options. It's perfectly understandable that at this stage they are unwilling to make any commitments until they have seen what else is on offer."
