Bank Holiday Monday`s Blue Square North Review....
31 August 2009 18:05:00

Corby Town suffered their second defeat in three days when losing 1-0 at Alfreton Town in the Blue Square North on Bank Holiday Monday.

Matthew Burke netted the only goal for the Reds 5 minutes into the second half.

Fellow promotees Eastwood Town now lead the way after inflicting a second successive 4-1 defeat on Gainsborough Trinity – this time at the Northolme.

Darryn Stamp actually put Trinity in front after 12 minutes but once Lindon Meikle equalised 8 minutes before the break, there looked like being only one winner.

Danny Holland made it 2-0 on 65 minutes and Ian Holmes added a third 7 minutes from time with a David Brown penalty 4 minutes later rounding things off.

Droylsden and Southport both earned away draws, the Bloods 2-2 at Croft Park against Blyth Spartans where Robbie Dale gave the home side the boost of an early 3rd minute lead that Shaun Whalley cancelled out less than 5 minutes later.

But Stephen Harrison restored Spartans lead with 18 minutes remaining only for Danny Williams to spoil their day with Droylsden`s equaliser just 2 minutes from the end.

Southport travelled to Northwich Victoria and fell behind to a 38th minute Michael O`Connor goal that looked like being good enough to take the points, until Steve Daly popped up with a penalty leveller 6 minutes from time.

Fleetwood Town came good at Highbury, beating Workington 4-0 with goals from Jamie Milligan after 9 minutes, Adam Warlow 4 minutes after half time, Matthew Wilde on 61 and Nathan Pond 18 minutes from the end of normal time.

Sam Duncum scored the only goal of the game that earned Ilkeston Town the spoils at the New Manor Ground against Farsley Celtic, while Harrogate Town saw off Hyde United 2-0 at Wetherby Road with goals from new loan signing Ryan Coleman after 11 minutes and Dan Broadbent 14 minutes from time.

Hinckley United were the day`s biggest scorers, hammering Redditch United 5-1 at home, with both Matt West and Richard Lavery bagging braces after Adam Webster had given them a 5th minute lead that Asa Charlton had cancelled out after 16 minutes.

Jake Edwards was another to net twice as Solihull Moors earned a second win of the season, 3-2 at Marston Road against Stafford Rangers.

Bobby Wilson gave Rangers a 4th minute lead but Edwards struck in the 10th and 14th minutes to turn the game in Moors` favour.

Ben Mills equalised after 27 minutes, but Wes Daly grabbed what proved to be the winner for the visitors 9 minutes from time.

Conner Jennings put Stalybridge Celtic in front at Bower Fold against Vauxhall Motors after 16 minutes.

Greg Wilkinson made it 2-0 with 25 minutes gone and a Brian Moogan own goal added a third before the half-hour mark.

Motors recovered their composure and even pulled one back through Lee Furlong with 6 minutes remaining.

AFC Telford United brought Gloucester City back down to earth after their 6-3 win at Corby on Saturday by inflicting a 1-0 defeat on the Tigers at the Corinium Stadium.
