Saturday`s Blue Square South Review....
29 August 2009 17:45:00

Newcomers Dover Athletic and Basingstoke Town are joint top of Blue Square South following Saturday`s round of matches that also saw Newport County and Thurrock maintain their unbeaten start to the season.

Dover travelled across to Hampshire to take on Eastleigh at the Sparshatts Stadium and returned with all three points after a 2-1 win in which Frannie Collin gave the Whites a first-minute lead.

Collin doubled the visitors` advantage in the 15th minute only for Anthony Riviere to reply for the Spitfires less than a minute later.

However, Andy Hessenthaler`s side held on to record victory.

Basingstoke continue to surprise many by winning 2-0 in the derby at Westleigh Park against Havant & Waterlooville.

Jide Ogunbote gave Frank Gray`s side a 29th minute lead and then David Pratt made sure with a second a minute from the end.

Newport County took a 15th minute lead through recent signing Jason Bradley at York Road against Maidenhead United, whose Kieran Knight levelled within 3 minutes.

Craig Reid restored the Exiles` lead with 18 minutes remaining and Gary Warren made sure with a third 6 minutes from time.

Thurrock, however, had to be content with a point from their trip to Hampton & Richmond Borough – something the Essex outfit would probably have settled for in the first place.

The visitors went ahead right on the stroke of half time through Reiss Gilbey, but the Beavers pulled back on level terms with a goal from defender Orlando Jeffrey 8 minutes after the break.

Worcester City are still to record a victory but at least earned one point from their St George`s Lane game against Staines Town – a result repeated at Park View Road between Welling United and Braintree Town.

Relegated Woking and Lewes met at the latter`s Dripping Pan and the Cards ran out 2-0 winners, thanks to goals from Ricky Anane a minute before the interval and Charlie Moone in stoppage time at the end of the game.

It was a similar scoreline at Woodside Park where Bishop`s Stortford saw off Hertfordshire neighbours St Albans City with goals from the returning Lewis Smith after 11 minutes and Danny Harris just before the break.

Chelmsford City got the boost of a first-minute Robbie Edmans goal at Melbourne Park against Bromley.

But the visitors pulled back on terms through Gareth Williams on 16 minutes and Rudi Hall`s penalty right on half time eventually proved to be the winner for Bromley.

Dorchester Town and Bath City shared a 2-2 draw at the Jewson Avenue Stadium in which all four goals came in the opening half.

New signing Ian Selley put the Magpies in front after 19 minutes. Mark Badman equalised 6 minutes later and then Darren Edwards put City ahead on 41 minutes, only for Phil Walsh to level right on the stroke of half time.
