Saturday`s Blue Square North Review....
22 August 2009 18:34:00

In Blue Square North after just five games, only Southern League champions Corby Town are yet to be beaten following Saturday`s round of games.

The Steelmen made the long trek up to Blyth Spartans and won 2-1, coming back from being a 20th minute Josh Gillies goal down.

Corby levelled with a Leon Mettam penalty to go in on terms at half time with, but maintained their 100 per cent away record by claiming an 80th minute winner through Mark Stallard.

Fiven teams are level on ten points – Fleetwood Town, neighbours Southport, Hyde United and two other newcomers, Eastwood Town and Ilkeston Town.

Fleetwood ended Eastwood`s unbeaten start to life in Blue Square North by inflicting a 3-1 Highbury defeat on the Badgers.

The crowd of 976 had to wait until the 65th minute for the breakthrough to arrive from Steve Connors.

Emeka Nwadike equalised 5 minutes later but 4 minutes after that Adam Warlow restored the home side`s lead and then extended it 3 minutes from time.

Southport were grateful to a stoppage time Chris Simm leveller to grab a point at the Impact Arena against Alfreton Town, whose Paul Clayton had given them the lead right on half time.

Simm`s former club Hyde had opposite fortunes at Ilkeston, where Amari Morgan -Smith grabbed a last-gasp equaliser for the hosts after Robbie Smith had put the Tigers in front as early as the 2nd minute.

Farsley Celtic and Northwich Victoria are still minus-three points, although Celtic did manage to claw another one back following a 2-2 draw at Stafford Rangers where Francis Kasiama gave the home side a 6th minue lead that Matty Young levelled on 23rd minutes.

Nick Wellecomme restored Rangers` lead 4 minutes later b ut Lee Ellington made it 2-2 with 10 minutes of the second half gone.

Northwich were beaten 2-0 at home by a Redditch United side that had lost their opening four matches.

Liam Francis opened the Reds` account on 23 minutes and Gary Hay doubled their advantage with 7 minutes to go.

Carl Rodgers scored the only goal of the game at the Northolme to earn AFC Telford United the spoils against managerless Gainsborough Trinity, while Ross Dempster earned Solihull Moors their first win of the campaign with a 78th minute goal at Wetherby Road against Harrogate Town.

The two other games ended all-square. Keith Briggs put Stalybridge Celtic in front at Bower Fold against Workington after 54 minutes only for Jonny Wrigh to level within 5 minutes.

Gareth Arnison`s 73rd minute spot-kick then put the visiting Reds ahead but Joe O`Neill also responded swiftly, just 2 minutes later, to pull Celtic back on terms.

Adam Webster gave Hinckley United the lead 2 minutes after the break at home to Vauxhall Motors, who battled back to level with 20 minutes to go through Lee Furlong.
