Harriers Land Matthews
13 August 2009 15:21:00

Blue Square Premier club Kidderminster Harriers have confirmed the signing of powerhouse forward Robbie Matthews on a two-year contract.

Twenty-seven-year-old Matthews arrives at Aggborough after leaving league rivals Salisbury City, where over the past couple of seasons he's established himself as one of the most formidable front men at this level.

After spells as a youngster at AFC Bournemouth and Swindon, he continued his development with the Whites where he eventually turned professional.

It was in his second spell as a City man that he really began to find his form and after helping the Whites win promotion to the Blue Square Premier, he's been a big part of both their seasons in non-league's top tier.

He spent the final part of last season out on loan at play-off chasing Crawley Town where he made another big impression, and left Salisbury this week after enjoying a prolific eight-goal pre-season, including hat-tricks against League One sides Exeter and Southampton.

In fantastic form, the hit-man is set to open a new chapter in his career as a Kidderminster player after also becoming a father for the first time within the last week.

Manager Mark Yates told his club`s website: "We were interested in Robbie early on in the summer but things didn't happen," admitted boss Mark Yates today after finally landing his man.

"His circumstances have now changed and we're delighted we've been able to secure his services.

"He will bring real balance to the side and will allow us to push Chris McPhee back into his normal position in midfield.

"Robbie is a big, strong, powerful lad but he is more than just a target man.

"He has a great deal of pace as well as having great ability in the air and he will definitely score goals."
