Courtney Earns Harriers` Deal
21 July 2009 09:58:00

Mark Yates, manager of Blue Square Premier club Kidderminster Harriers, has secured defender Duane Courtney for next term at Aggborough Stadium.

The highly-rated 24-year-old, who can play anywhere along the back-line, began his career at youth level with Derby and Birmingham but after failing to secure professional terms with the latter he joined up with AFC Telford United to kick-start his career.

His first campaign there could barely have gone better - his impressive performances landed him not only the club's player of the year award but also a dream move into the Football League with Burnley - the Clarets paying £25,000 for his services and snatching him from under the nose of Wolverhampton Wanderers.

He spent just one season at Turf Moor, making eight appearances before the search for more regular first-team action took him to the Principality Welsh Premier and TNS in 2006.

Once again he wasted little time making his mark and he ended his first term in the country's Team of the Year. He remained a regular in the Saints' side for the next two seasons - making 35 appearances in 2008/09 alone.

After leaving the club went to Aggborough on trial earlier this summer and has continued his trend of making a strong first impression. His performances in the opening batch of friendlies and pre-season training have landed him a one-year contract at Harriers.

His deal has been completed and we now await the formality of international clearance from Wales to allow him to compete competitively.
