City Deal for Mehew
21 July 2010 12:48:00

Blue Square Bet North club Gloucester City have announced that manager Dave Mehew has signed a two-year contract, having previously worked on a non-contract basis.

Gloucester chairman Nigel Hughes said: “We are delighted that Dave Mehew has accepted our offer of a two-year contract.

“All on the Executive have a great deal of respect for the hard work and commitment shown by Dave since he arrived, and especially since he stepped up from assistant-manager over two seasons ago to replace Tim Harris.

“Since then Dave has continued to grow in stature and develop his own style of management. On his appointment he consolidated the squad and against all odds won promotion to the Blue Square North - the highest playing level in the club`s 125-year history.

“In maintaining the club`s status at this level last season on one of the lowest budgets in the league, then Dave has continued to enhance his reputation.

“The contract is both recognition of his sterling work since taking over as manager, but even more importantly to recognise that we believe he is the man to take the club forward for the future. We are delighted that he has committed to the club in this fashion.”

Mehew said: “We briefly discussed the idea of a contract at the end of last season, and agreed in principle then on the way forward.

“I am delighted to sign a two-year deal, and in the confidence the club are showing in me. We all know the pressures of being away from our own home, but I have an excellent relationship with those running the club, and we all want the same things - to continue the development of the last four years, to push the club further up the Conference, and to move back to Gloucester as a successful outfit on and off the field.”
