Chelmsford City welcome ex-Premier League opposition to Melbourne this weekend.
Legendary former Clarets midfielder and England manager Peter Taylor brings his full-strength Bradford City side to face old friend in Glenn Pennyfather’s squad on Saturday afternoon.
Taylor, who handed David Beckham the captaincy of the Three Lions during a caretaker spell in charge of the National Team, is now the boss of the Valley Parade club and includes the Chelmsford match-up as part of a local mini-tour which has also included games against Canvey Island, Stambridge United and Ashford Town (Middx).
Pennyfather believes Bradford will provide exactly the sort of challenge his team needs, saying: “It will be nice to see Peter again as I’ve known him for a long time and I’m pleased he is bringing his team here as it’s going to be a tough test. They’ll probably be favourites for their division and they get a massive support which is an advantage in their league.”
Bradford’s home crowds in npower League Two last season averaged around 10,000 fans and Pennyfather added: “I know Peter tends to bring his sides around this area at pre-season time so I’m looking forward to it. It’ll be our third game in and I’ll be looking for us to keep building on our fitness and on our pattern of play. We’ve slightly changed this year and I’m looking for a further improvement ready for the big kick-off.”
The admission prices are £7 for adults and £3 for concessions, while under-14s can enter for free. Season Ticket holders will require admission money due to the ‘shared gate’ nature of the fixture and anyone who hasn’t collected their Season Ticket can do so at the Club Office before the game or during usual opening hours on Friday.
Colchester United XI Friendly Added: City have secured themselves an additional warm-up game to examine new players and prepare their existing ones after a Colchester United XI were confirmed as visitors to Melbourne next Wednesday, 28th July.
