Harriers Sign Former Dragon
22 July 2010 13:20:00

Blue Square Bet Premier club Kidderminster Harriers have signed former Wales under-21 international Mike Williams ahead of the new season.

The 23-year-old has spent the summer on trial at Aggborough and has featured heavily in the club's opening friendly fixtures.

To date Williams (pictured) has been a one-club man, signing professional forms for Wrexham some five years ago after joining them as a trainee.

He went on to make well over 100 appearances for the Welsh outfit in both the Football League and the Football Conference, alongside his brother, Dragons' striker Marc.

After being released at the end of last season having played in more than thirty games last term, the left-footed defender began the search for a new club for the first time in his career, a search which has led to him signing a one-year deal at Aggborough tonight following the 1-0 win over Chasetown, subject to the formality of International clearance.

Internationally, Williams featured on more than twenty occasions at under-19 and under-21 levels, and is currently a member of the Wales semi-professional side.

"I have been really impressed with what I have seen from Mike," commented boss Steve Burr.

"Although he is still at a young age he is a relatively old head - there aren't many players who have played as many games at this stage as he has, in the Football League and in the Conference.

"He will be a very valuable addition to the squad."

Burr also confirmed to us today that young midfielder Nathan Hayward has left Aggborough.

Hayward was offered re-engagement at the end of last season and looked set to be part of the new term after featuring in pre-season; though the club and player have failed to come to terms on a fresh deal.

"We offered Nathan new terms and he has been a part of things for us so far this summer but ultimately he is looking for a bit more money and, unfortunately, that is not something we feel we can give him at this stage.

"I'm not too sure he will push on from what we saw of him here last season and instead as a club we think we can perhaps use the resources we have now on one of the other young lads who is coming through."
