Pires Becomes a Wing
21 July 2010 11:51:00

Young winger-cum-striker Loick Pires has signed for Blue Square Bet South club Welling United.

Manager Jamie Day has been trying to sign the former Leyton Orient man all summer and is very pleased at finally getting his man.

Pires had been a regular for both youth and reserves teams for Orient since joining in 2006 and earned his first full professional contract in April 2008.

He made great strides in the 2008/09 season, making a total of seven appearances in his first season as a professional, making his debut as a substitute for Orient in a home game against Doncaster Rovers in April 2008.

He was offered a new contract in May 2009 and to cap a fine month was awarded the inaugural Leyton Orient Community player of the year award for his outstanding contributions to the club's community sports programmes and youth schemes.

Unable to find a regular place in the first-team, Pires was released by O's manager Russell Slade at the end of last season.

Meanwhile, forward Joe Healy has agreed terms with the club and is expected to sign a deal.

Healy started his career with Millwall. He played four times for the Lions including his debut as a trainee in the 3-0 Carling Cup defeat by Liverpool in October 2004.

He then joined Crawley Town on loan before having spells with Yeading, Fisher Athletic and Beckenham Town, signing for the Wings in July 2008.
