Monday`s Blue Square South Review...
05 April 2010 18:15:00

With the title race in Blue Square South over ages ago, the race for the play-offs is the main focus of attention on Bank Holiday Monday.

And Dover Athletic have assured their place in the extra games after winning 1-0 at Kent neighbours and fellow contenders Welling United – Nicky Southall the scorer 10 minutes into the second half.

Chelmsford City and Braintree Town are all-but there too and shared the spoils when they met at Melbourne Park.

George Purcell gave the visiting Iron a great start with a goal inside 2 minutes, but Dave Rainford equalised just before the hour-mark.

Batn City pulled to within a point of fifth-placed Staines Town after beating relegation-threatened Worcester City 2-0 at St George`s Lane.

Lewis Hogg was the Bath hero, bagging a brace in the 37th and 85th minutes.

Thurrock are a further two points adrift and would perhaps have wanted more than a goalless draw from their visit to Bishop`s Stortford.

Woking kept their interest alive after a 2-0 win at the Sparshatts Stadium against Eastleigh with goals from Giuseppe Sole after 41 minutes, followed by Eastleigh`s Tom Jordan`s dismissal, and Nathaniel Pinney`s 77th minute spot-kick before which home keeper Jason Matthews saw red.

Already doomed Weymouth went down to a 3-1 defeat at Havant & Waterlooville, whose Mustafa Tyriaki netted a hat trick with goals in the 8th, 44th and 81st minutes – Stephen Reed replying on 46 minutes for the Terras but was subsequently sent-off.

Lewes kept Worcester within sight after beating Bromley 1-0 at the Dripping Pan, courtesy of David Wheeler`s 10th minute effort.

David Tarpey bagged a brace for Hampton & Richmond Borough as they beat St Albans City 3-0 at the Beveree.

Tarpey`s goals came in the 25th and 82nd minutes, with Lawrence Yaku having opened the scoring in the 9th minute – in between the Beavers having been reduced to ten-men with the dismissal of Chris Robinson.

Dorchester Town were the day`s biggest winners, however, hammering Basingstoke Town 6-1 at the Jewson Avenue Stadium.

Neil Martin, Gary Bowles, Ryan Moss, Jamie Gleeson, Michael Walker and Kevin Hill being the Magpies` marksmen after `Stoke had actually taken a 3rd minute lead through Benedict Akwuegbu.
