Saturday`s Blue Square North Review....
03 April 2010 18:24:00

The top two in Blue Square North both won on Saturday, so it`s as you were with Fleetwood Town leading neighbours Southport by two points with the second-placed side possessing a vital game in hand.

Fleetwood beat play-off chasing Droylsden 3-0 at Highbury on Saturday with Lee Thorpe bagging a brace with goals in the 45th and 79th minutes.

Adam Warlow`s twenty-fifth goal of the season on 55 minutes sandwiched Thorpe`s two to make the final score 3-0.

Southport were given a battle at Wetherby Road by relegation-threatened Harrogate Town before edging through by the odd goal in five.

David Syers gave the bottom-markers a 7th minute lead that Steve Daly eventually cancelled out in the 36th minute.

Mark Lever then gave the high-flyers the lead a minute after half time and Ciaran Kilheeny looked to have made it a comfortable victory for `Port when he added a third 5 minutes from time,

But defender Josh Radcliffe pulled a second back for Town in stoppage time to make it a nervy finale.

Alfreton Town look virtually certainties for the play-offs after winning 3-0 at the Impact Arena against lowly Redditch United.

Liam Hearn opened the scoring after 16 minutes, although it wasn`t until 13 minutes from time when Anthony Howell made it 2-0, with Tyeisse Nightingale`s penalty in injury-time making sure.

With Droylsden losing and Hinckley United`s game being called off, Workington took full advantage to move to within a point of the fifth-placed Knitters after beating Northwich Victoria 3-2 at the Victoria Stadium.

Lee Andrews` own goal gave Vics a 9th minute lead that Kyle May wiped out on the half-hour mark.

Wayne Riley restored Northwich`s lead 3 minutes later and they held that until stoppage time when the Reds scored twice through May again and Jonny Wright.

Stalybridge Celtic, Ilkeston Town and AFC Telford United are all on fifty-one points and still in play-off contention.

Celtic beat Solihull Moors 4-1 at Bower Fold with Keith Briggs giving the home side the lead just before half time.

Ryan Beswick equalised 4 minutes after the break but Jody Banim gave Stalybridge the lead again less than a minute later.

Matty Barlow 7 minutes later and sub Connor Jennings a minute from time completed the scoring.

The other two met at the New Manor Ground, with Ilkeston edging it 2-1.

Bucks` defender Adam Dugdale had a mixed afternoon, giving the visitors the lead on 75 minutes, but was sent-off just minutes later to hand the initiative back to the hosts.

Ilkeston pressed home their numerical advantage, equalising 10 minutes from time through Jack Watts and then former Nottingham Forest and Peterborough striker Jason Lee netted the winner with just 5 minutes to go.

The relegation situation is going to be complicated this season due to several different issues, but currently Harrogate and Vauxhall Motors looked doomed, with the latter going down to a 3-1 defeat at Marston Road to Stafford Rangers, whose Danny Glover gave them a boost of a first-minute lead.

Four minutes later Brian Moogan levelled from the spot, but Grant Goodhead on 16 minutes and Dom Merella on 37 made it game over.

There were seven goals in the other game in the division at Croft Park where Blyth Spartans beat Hyde United 4-3.

Spartans led 3-0 with goals from Michael Tait on 17 and 22 minutes and Paul Brayson a minute before the break.

David McNiven reduced the arrears 10 minutes into the second half only for Richard Pell to restore Spartans` three-goal advantage.

But McGiven again on the hour and Chris Lynch on 76 minutes gave Hyde hope, but the home side held on.
