Chelmsford City’s Head Coach, Glenn Pennyfather, can crack open the champagne once more having been named as Blue Square South Manager of the Month for March, but he has since proclaimed: “I’d prefer to win the April award!”
The Clarets’ boss beat off some worthy opposition for the monthly silverware, with Dean Holdsworth recently claiming the league title at Newport County at a canter. But his 100 per cent spell during the most recent four-week period, including victories over Bishop’s Stortford, Weston-super-Mare, Weymouth and Hampton & Richmond Borough, saw him reclaim the award he last collected in December.
“If it means the team are doing well I want to win all of them,” he joked after receiving the good news. “Seriously, though, I want so much to thank everyone who has worked so hard to help me this year. That goes for the players and all the staff and fans who have supported us home and away all season. This award is as much for the club as it is for me and it’s an honour to receive it on behalf of Chelmsford City.”
Pennyfather is now hoping for an even more successful April after securing draws from two difficult games over the Easter Weekend away at Bromley and at home to local rivals Braintree Town.
With four games remaining, Chelmsford require a maximum of two more wins to secure a play-off spot as the club prepares for it’s best ever chance of guaranteeing Blue Square Premier football for the 2010/11 campaign.
