Important Three Points for Barrow
09 April 2010 09:33:00

In the only game in the Blue Square Premier on Thursday night, Barrow moved five points clear of the relegation zone after a hard-fought 1-0 win over Kidderminster Harriers at Holker Street.

The victory was the Bluebirds’ first in four games and lifts them up to seventeenth in the table.

The only goal of the game was scored as early as the 4th minute by veteran centre back Phil Bolland, whose shot took a wicked deflection and crept into the bottom corner.

The Bluebirds were the better side for the first 20 minutes before Harriers` settled and began to take control.

Harriers should have equalised on 27 minutes when Lloyd Kelly sent his shot just wide of the upright and visiting striker Darryl Knights then hit the bar with a cracking effort.

The visitors, who lost substitute David McDermott to a serious-looking leg injury, had the better chances in the second half but couldn’t find a way past Barrow keeper Tim Deasy.

Kidderminster had a goal disallowed in the closing stages, but the hosts hung on during 6 minutes of stoppage time – and could even have doubled their lead when sub Carlos Logan`s 30-yard effort just cleared the bar.
