Worcester City's hopes of surviving in Blue Square South received a huge boost with a crucial 1-0 victory at play-off chasing Staines Town on Good Friday night.
Alfie Carter (pictured) fired the decisive goal after 17 minutes at a rain-lashed Wheatsheaf Lane to send Carl Heeley's side eight points clear of third-bottom Lewes.
The visitors also dug in defensively to keep their lead intact, while Staines had Ali Chaaban sent-off 5 minutes from time for a second yellow card City took the lead with the first chance of the game.
Graham Ward launched the ball into the box and, as the returning Marco Adaggio battled in vain to bundle it over the line, Carter pounced to fire past Louis Wells.
This defeats still leaves the Swans in pole position to claim a top five finish, as they are four points clear of sixth-placed Welling United, Thurrock and Bath City, who are all on fifty-nine points.
