A fantastic crowd of 5,744 at Broadhall Way saw Stevenage Borough maintain their five-point lead at the top of the Blue Square Premier table with a 1-0 victory over Oxford United, who dropped to third as a consequence.
Scott Laird notched his third goal of the season from the penalty spot 7 minutes into the second half after Jake Wright was penalised for a foul on David Bridges as Boro claimed their eighth league win in a row.
It also preserved Stevenage`s unbeaten home domestic record while a fifth successive away game without a win saw Oxford lose second place to Luton Town.
Stevenage striker Tim Sills was denied by Oxford keeper Ryan Clarke before he headed Ronnie Henry`s free kick against the bar a minute before the break.
Sam Deering had Oxford`s best chance in the first half but his 25-yard effort was saved by Boro number one Chris Day.
Laird then opened the scoring from the spot before Clarke did well to tip Chris Beardsley`s 12-yard shot around the post to deny the hosts a second.
Day then had to be alert to tip Simon Clist`s free kick from 25 yards over as Oxford searched for an equaliser with Matt Green and Deering also failing to find the target with efforts in the closing stages.
Luton Town moved into second place as they eased to their seventh successive victory with a 4-0 win over lowly Salisbury City.
The hosts opened the scoring through a Claude Gnakpa header after 35 minutes and took a 2-0 lead just before half time when Tom Craddock scored from Fred Murray's cross.
Craddock turned provider for Luton's third 10 minutes after the break when his pass set up Jake Howells to fire home.
Simon Heslop made it eighteen goals scored by Luton in their last three games when he netted from close range having been set up by Kevin Gallen.
Salisbury's only effort of note came in the first half when Chris Shephard's shot from just outside the area was parried by Luton goalkeeper Mark Tyler.
Rushden & Diamonds confirmed their status as play-off contenders with a comprehensive 3-0 win against neighbours Kettering Town at the Elgood Brewery Stadium.

O'Connor crossed again for Mark Bryne to double the Diamonds` advantage 9 minutes later.
The visitors made it 3-0 after 64 minutes with the highly-rated Lee Tomlin firing home from 12 yards.

A dramatic finish when AFC Wimbledon snatched a point at the death, maintained the home side`s slim play-off hopes against Wrexham at Kingsmeadow.
Wrexham goalkeeper Chris Maxwell saved Danny Kedwell's early penalty then 6 minutes into the second half saw Dons` stopper James Pullen net an own goal from Paul Lorraine's clearance.
Brett Johnson's header was turned into his own net by Frank Sinclair for a 90th minute equaliser, but Andy Mangan struck in stoppage time for Wrexham.
Sinclair was sent-off for bringing down Kedwell in the area, with Glenn Poole scoring the resultant spot-kick.
Cambridge United`s ten-match unbeaten run came to an end, courtesy of Brian Smikle's first half goal for Kidderminster Harriers at Aggborough.
Top scorer Smikle's strike came after 18 minutes when he beat the offside flag to slot into the bottom corner after being set up by Darryl Knights.
Harriers had chances to extend their lead, Smikle and Martin Riley both denied by visiting keeper Simon Brown.
Cambridge's best chances came after the break but Lee Phillips missed close in and Danny Crow headed against the bar.
Lloyd Kerry could have doubled Kidderminster's advantage late on but Brown again came to Cambridge's rescue.
It was a deserved first win in eight games for Steve Burr's side.
Eastbourne Borough climbed out of the relegation zone after beating fellow strugglers Gateshead at Priory Lane.
Boro`s Simon Weatherstone went closest to opening the scoring in the first half when his 30-yard effort was tipped over by Tynesiders` keeper Jim Provett.
The deadlock was finally broken after 64 minutes when Weatherstone scored from the spot after James Curtis brought down Darren Baker.
Matt Smart soon doubled the lead from close range 2 minutes later, before Craig Baxter's 30-yard free kick 6 minutes later set up a nervy finale.
