Ten-man Oxford United saw their lead at the top of the Blue Square Premier table cut to just one point after a 1-1 draw against Cambridge United at the Abbey Stadium on Tuesday night.

The hosts drew first blood when they took the lead in the 18th minute after Brian Saah struck home a loose ball from inside the six-yard box.

Oxford responded well, with Adam Chapman and Simon Clist both having efforts saved, and the league leaders drew level 4 minutes before the break when Matthew Green converted Jake Wright's cross.

Cambridge went close to regaining the lead after the break when Danny Crow's brilliant volley from distance brought a fine save out of Ryan Clarke.

Oxford's task was made significantly harder in the 70th minute when Anthony Tonkin was sent-off for a professional foul on Crow. But the hosts could not capitalise and it Chris Wilder's men almost nicked it in injury time when Sam Deering was denied from close range.

Mitchell Cole hit a 7-minute hat trick as Stevenage Borough cut the gap on Oxford to just one point with a 6-0 demolition of ten-man Eastbourne Borough.

Despite Eastbourne going close when Jamie Taylor hit the bar early on, the visitors eventually made heavy pressure pay shortly before the break when Mark Roberts converted from close range.

And Boro needed just 84 seconds of the second half to double the lead after David Bridges headed home a Joel Byrom free kick, before Chris Beardsley fired home in fine style from 30 yards to make it three after 70 minutes.

Cole added a fourth from the penalty spot after Darren Baker, who was sent-off, fouled Beardsley and Cole grabbed a second from close range.

Then substitute Cole completed his treble 2 minutes later from a Scott Laird cross as Stevenage ran riot in the final 10 minutes.

Mansfield Town and Luton Town shared the spoils in a dour goalless draw at Field Mill.

Play-off contenders Mansfield Town and Luton Town fought out a closely contested goalless draw at Field Mill.

The visitors almost took an early lead when defender Fred Murray ventured forward and drove a shot from 25-yards just wide.

Stags midfielder Ryan Williams then saw his fiercely struck long-range effort blocked by Adam Newton.

Luton's Asa Hall had a 30-yard drive parried by Alan Marriott before he headed wide from a corner.

Kidderminster Harriers` promotion challenge was dented after Ebbsfleet United denied them victory in an entertaining 2-2 draw.

Striker Darryl Knights headed home a left-wing cross from Brian Smikle to put the Harriers ahead in the 5th minute, but the visitors equalised in the 36th minute through Moses Ashikodi before going ahead through substitute Scott Ginty in the 69th minute.

Harriers fought back to draw level in the 77th minute with a goal from midfielder Brian Smikle but they could not fashion a winner.

After Knights` strike put Kidderminster in control, they could have doubled their lead, only for Robbie Matthews to see his fine effort from 18 yards repelled by Fleet keeper Lance Cronin.

The visitors gradually established a foothold on proceedings and went close through Peter Holmes and Alex Stavrinou before the equaliser arrived when Holmes crossed for Ashikodi to volley home from 18 yards.

And Fleet forged ahead when Ginty drilled home from 20 yards before Smikle struck from a similar distance to ensure the honours were shared.

Iyseden Christie's second half header gave Tamworth a much-needed 1-0 win over lowly Gateshead at Tha Lamb.

The hosts opened the scoring 11 minutes after the interval when Tom Shaw's corner was met by Christie who nodded in from six yards.

Tamworth were marginally the better side in a first half where both teams had several chances to open the scoring.

The best opportunities fell to the hosts' Michael Wylde and Gateshead's Carl Jones, both of whom were guilty of missing the target with close range headers.

After taking the lead, Gary Mills' men pushed forward in an effort to put the game beyond doubt and Sebastian Lake-Gaskin hit a post from close range 10 minutes from time.

Despite their pressure, Tamworth failed to add to their tally but they still walked away with a deserved three points.

Crawley Town twice came from behind to secure a 2-2 draw at the Raymond McEnhill Stadium against Salisbury City.

The hosts started brightly and took the lead when Chris Bush found Matty Tubbs and he made no mistake from 12 yards.

However, the visitors equalised against the run of play 11 minutes later after Charles Ademeno teed up Barry Cogan and his volley beat James Bittner.

Tubbs netted his second after 35 minutes with a low shot following an attempted clearance from Karl Broadhurst.

After the break, Crawley began with plenty of intent and Bittner denied Cogan before Glenn Wilson equalised for Steve Evans' men in the 55th minute with a close-range strike.

Ben Adelsbury nearly gave the Whites the lead for the third time in the 72nd minute, but his 20-yard shot was tipped round the post by Simon Rayner.
