Law Men Back After Ten-Day Break
26 October 2009 12:37:00

Alfreton Town return to action after a ten-day lay-off with a Blue Square North home game against Gainsborough Trinity on Tuesday evening.

Reds` manager Nicky Law has no injury worries whatsoever and with no suspensions either, he will be spoilt for choice with a full strength squad for the first time in several weeks.

Despite the enforced break due to their FA Cup exit, Law will be looking for his side to build on their 4-0 victory at Harrogate Town last time out.

The Reds go into the game seventh in the table on twenty-one points from thirteen games but a win will be important to keep the club in touch with the sides currently four points ahead of them in the play-off zone and the top two six points away, particularly with a big ‘six-pointer’ at sixth-placed Fleetwood Town this Saturday as well.

Trinity arrive in ninteenth place outside the relegation places on goal difference only, with twelve points from fourteen games and seeking a first win under new manager Brian Little.

The Blues went down 3-1 at home to Stalybridge last Saturday, a victory which put Celtic top of the table.

However, a word of warning is that Trinity’s away form has yielded twice as many points as at home with two wins, two draws and two defeats on the road so far.

They recorded a notable 2-2 draw at Fleetwood Town three weeks ago, and also drew 2-2 at Vauxhall Motors on the opening day of the season.

Victories have been achieved at Redditch United (3-0) and Solihull Moors (1-0). Defeats have been suffered at Farsley Celtic (4-1) and Hyde United (3-2).

In a season of disappointing inconsistency for them, Gainsborough also won 2-1 at Market Drayton Town in the FA Cup Second Qualifying Round but then went out 1-0 at Nuneaton Town in the next round.

Top scorer for Trinity this season is the much-travelled former Chesterfield and Notts County striker Glynn Hurst with five league goals.

Gainsborough won last season’s fixture at Alfreton by a 4-1 margin and they also won 2-1 in Derbyshire on the last day of the 2005/06 campaign.

Sandwiched in between though were two 3-1 victories for the Reds and a repeat would be most welcome on Tuesday night.
