City Win - Wings Earn a Late Point
27 October 2009 09:27:00

Managerless Welling United battled their way to a 2-2 draw at Westleigh Park against Havant & Waterlooville in one of two Blue Square South matches on Monday night.

Ian Simpemba gave the Hawks an 8th minute lead with a powerful drive, but the visiting Wings were back on terms just 9 minutes later when Havant forward Luke Nightingale was ajudged to have been the last player to touch Dean Cracknell’s corner, heading the ball into his own net.

The hosts were back in front though on 68 minutes through Ryan Woodford’s header from a corner.

That looked like being the winner until a minute from time when Tom Whitnell fired past Hawks` keeper Aaron Howe from close range to earn the strugglers a share of the spoils.

The other game on Monday saw two other struggling sides in the lower reaches of the table, Weston-super-Mare, hammered 4-1 at St George`s Lane by another in Worcester City, who actually begna the evening a point and a place behind the Seagulls.

The man who started the rout only joined City a couple of weeks ago from the visitors – Marc McGregor, who put the home side ahead in the 17th minute.

Five minutes later it was 2-0 with Craig Wilding the marksman and 6 minutes after the break it was game over when Rob Elvins added a third.

Defender Wayne Daniel scored City`s fourth on 67 minutes, with Ben Joyce netting a consolation for the visitors 10 minutes later.

Weston did win one thing on the night – their managed to beat City`s booking total by five to four!
