Blue Square North club Redditch United have signed veteran defender Jerry Gill, who left Blue Square Premier side Forest Green Rovers earlier this season.
Gill joined Forest Green, initially on loan, in October 2008 as player/assistant-manager following the departure of Jamie Pitman to Hereford.
Gill, who turned 39 earlier this month, played around 300 Football League games in a career with Birmingham City and Northampton Town, prior to his move to Cheltenham Town in February 2004.
He made 180 League appearances for the Whaddon Road outfit and moved across to the New Lawn following discussions with the then new Cheltenham manager Martin Allen.
Gill immediately established himself as Jim Harvey's first choice right back, but a freak collision with an advertising hoarding left him with a triple fracture of his cheekbone and eye socket.
The injury consigned him to the role of assistant-manager for the rest of the campaign, yet his training methods were popular with the players and he was credited with a major role in the successful battle against the drop.
Gill has just obtained his UEFA `B` coaching licence following a course where he worked alongside ex-internationals Dietmar Hamann, Danny Mills and Andy Cole.
