Chadwick Becomes a Cestrian
14 August 2009 16:51:00

Chester City, who belatedly begin their Blue Square Premier campaign on Saturday, have completed the signing of former Everton and Plymouth striker Nick Chadwick on a one-year-deal.

Chadwick, 26, looks set for an instant debut in Chester's delayed first league game of the season against Cambridge United at the Deva Stadium.

The Shropshire-born striker signed for Plymouth from Everton in February 2005, scoring ten times in eighty-three appearances in three and a half seasons at Home Park.

He then spent a year at Hereford United before joining Shrewsbury last season.

Chadwick made just nine league starts for the Shrews, scoring twice, and was part of the team who lost out in the Coca-Cola League Two play-off final against Gillingham at Wembley.

The Shropshire-born player also had spells out on loan at Derby and Millwall (twice) during his four and half years on the books at Goodison Park.

Chadwick is City's fifth signing of the summer, following midfielder Fabian Yantorno, defenders Tim Ryan and Michael Lea and striker Andy Murphy.

City had also brought in experienced Bury striker Glynn Hurst, but all the confusion surrounding the club's future, following the postponement of their first two games has caused him to look elsewhere.

And, for the same reason, City appear to have lost the chance of signing young Oldham Athletic striker Lewis Alessandra.
