Dons Debut Ends In Defeat

AFC Wimbledon's debut appearance in the FA Cup 1st Round Proper ended in defeat.

Last nights action saw the ‘Wombles’ host Coca Cola League 2 side Wycombe Wanderers, live in front of the Setanta Sports TV cameras. The game was in doubt after torrential rain hit South West London, but AFC Wimbledon staff worked hard all day to make sure the final First Round tie would go ahead.

The Chairboys opened the scoring on 9 minutes when forward Matt Harrold defeated the Don's keeper. The visitors went into the break 2 goals up thanks to a second strike from Harrold.

Dons midfielder Sam Hatton gave the hosts hope in the 56th minute, only for the League 2 side to respond through youngster Matty Phillips and see Wycombe strengthen their lead making it 1-3.

Harrold rounded off the scoring for the evening by completing his hat-trick on 74 minutes.

In a good spirited game which saw only 1 booking, the Blue Square South side can look back favourably on their FA cup run. AFC Wimbledon's progression both on and off the field is to be admired, the London based outfit have made strides in their short history and can now re-focus their attention on their League position, they currently lie in 4th position.
