A round-up of Tuesday`s pre-season friendlies involving Football Conference clubs...

Blue Square Bet Premier new boys Newport County enjoyed a successful night in Wiltshire as twenty-three players were used in a fluent performance that brought a 3-0 win against Zamaretto League Premier Division hosts Chippenham Town.

Robbie Matthews soared above the home defence to head County into a 23rd minute lead from a Tony Taggart corner, but the best moment of the game came in the 40th minute.

Matthews headed down a free kick from Andrew Hughes and triallist forward Craig Frater set himself up to volley the ball spectacularly into the net.

Following multiple substitutions at the break, County conceded a 57th minute penalty when Sam Foley brought down Ashley Edenborough – but former Welsh international keeper Glyn Garner, who has just signed for County, pulled off a great save from Lewis Powell’s spot-kick.

Four minutes later County scored a third when a Foley shot was turned into his own net by Chippenham defender Steve Casey.

Rhys Murphy bagged a brace as Arsenal reserves drew 2-2 with County`s new league rivals Crawley Town at the Broadfield Stadium.

Murphy, born just up the road in Shoreham, snatched two goals to give the Gunners the advantage at the break but Crawley battled back to earn a draw.

Glen Wilson gave the hosts a shock in the first minute when he stabbed home from a well worked Crawley corner. But Murphy soon levelled 2 minutes later with a superb finish and he made it 2-1 just 3 minutes later after rounding the home keeper and slotting home.

Crawley were on level terms soon after the interval when Mark Tubbs equalised for 2-2, but the home side were grateful to keeper Michael Kuipers, who denied Arsenal on more than one occasion, the former Brighton keeper displaying super shot-stopping ability.

Blue Square Bet South newcomers Dartford were given a shock when Ryman League Division One South visitors Leatherhead left Princes Park with the Ryman League Charity Shield.

Last season`s League Cup winners triumphed over the league champions, courtesy of a Kevin Terry effort after 22 minutes.

Blue Square Bet South side Welling United lost 2-1 to npower Championship outfit Millwall at Park View Road.

The South London side went two goals in front until Jack Obersteller pulled one back for the Wings just before the break.

Blue Square Bet Premier hosts Bath City were well beaten by npower League Two visitors Exeter City, who ran out 4-0 winners at Twerton Park.

Ben Watson hit a stunning 25-yard striker into the top corner to put City three up after goals from Richard Logan and James Dunne.

And Watson added a fourth in the dying minutes to complete the rout.

Blue Square South side Bishop`s Stortford went down to a 2-0 Woodside Park defeat to League Two Lincoln City, who maintained their 100% record in pre-season as a consequence.

Cian Hughton grabbed the Imp's first on the 20 minute-mark with a superb finish into the top corner from the edge of the box while youngster Andy Hutchinson grabbed a goal after coming on from the bench to seal the comfortable win 15 minutes from time with an excellent flicked header.

Blue Square Bet North new boys Boston United booked their place in the last four of the Lincolnshire Senior Shield, courtesy of a 4-0 success over Evo-Stik League Division One South neighbours Grantham Town at York Street.

Danny Davidson opened the Pilgrims` account after 34 minutes and Jamie Yates (36), Miles Hunter (76) and Spencer Weir-Daley with a penalty 3 minutes from time added to it.

A goal from the Hatters` Matthew Barnes-Homer (pictured) cancelled out a first half strike from Craig Hammond as Zamaretto Premier side Cambridge City earned a credible draw against a strong Luton Town side at Milton Road.

Blue Square Bet South side Dover Athletic edged out Ryman Premier neighbours Maidstone United 1-0 at Crabble, courtesy of an Adam Birchall goal with less than 2 minutes remaining.

Blue Square Bet North side Eastwood Town won 2-1 at Evo-Stik League Premier Division Frickley Athletic.

The Badgers took full advantage of several changes to the Blues' side as they opened up a two-goal lead at half time but Danny Clarke reduced the arrears.

Blue Square Bet Premier side Altrincham cruised to a 5-0 win at Evo-Stik League Division One North neighbours Trafford.

Ryan Brown scored again from a deflected free kick after 9 minutes and then made it 2-0 direct from another free kick 6 minutes later.

Alty's third arrived through Matt Holmes 5 minutes before half time and it was 4-0 soon after the interval when Damian Reeves smartly converted a loose ball.

Reeves then made it 5-0 with another well taken goal 3 minutes from time.

Alty`s league rivals Kettering Town suffered defeat as League One MK Dons claimed a 4-1 win at the Elgood's Arena.

The visitors took the lead through Angelo Balanta on 24 minutes but Kettering grabbed their first goal of pre-season 3 minutes later when James Dance's excellent curling shot found the top corner.

However, the Dons ran away with it after the break as Lee Harper made a number of changes and further goals from Sam Baldock, Stephen Gleeson and Jermaine Easter rounded it off.

Conference Premier newcomers Darlington produced another solid performance against League One visitors Sheffield Wednesday, earning a 1-1 draw.

Paul Arnison had put the Quakers into a 49th minute lead from the penalty spot after Mark Beevers was adjudged to have fouled Liam Hatch inside the area.

But Wednesday equalised shortly after the hour-mark when substitute Paul Heffernan scrambled home from close range.
