Reds Get Busy
13 May 2010 17:18:00

Alfreton Town manager Nicky Law faces plenty of work on two counts as he begins planning for a fresh assault on promotion from Blue Square North next season.

With the dust not even settled on last weekend’s play-off final defeat, Law has already begun busying himself in contract talks with the few members of his squad where existing deals have just ended.

And, he admits he will be doing that as a matter of priority to keep the vultures from the door with Conference Premier clubs already having registered their interest in some of his players who have performed so consistently well over what has been a memorable season.

Midfield player Ian Ross has given Law a big boost as he has already pledged himself to the Reds’ cause by penning a new one-year contract which will keep him at the Impact Arena until the end of the 2010/11 season.

In the aftermath of the play-off final defeat, Law said: “There is obviously a need to strengthen but there won’t be wholesale changes.

“This group of young players are a bit indifferent, but they are a good bunch of lads and there is no way we will be going and destroying it all to rebuild when we don’t need to.

“We fell down in the final somewhat due to a lack of experience in certain departments, a lack of nous, and I will be looking to address that situation.

“I don’t think we need a load of new faces. Maybe three or four good, steady players will make us better and stronger.

“I have got a lot of people to speak to and some may want to move on themselves but, I know the nucleus of the squad I want and I will be going about keeping that, then obviously there will be a lot of players becoming available now.
