Reds` Fringe Players to get the Chance
14 April 2010 13:11:00

Alfreton manager Nicky Law may use the final three games of the season to give those members of his squad not in action recently a chance to stake their claim for a place.

The Reds guaranteed their position in the play offs for the second successive season after a dramatic first ever win against Northwich Victoria and solid draw at Droylsden at the weekend.

With only goalkeeper Paddy Gamble (back) injured Law has plenty of options for trips to Ilkeston this Saturday and Southport on Tuesday.

Law said: “I cannot fault the lads - week in and week out they keep producing. On Monday Droylsden had everything to play for, they were difficult opposition on a difficult pitch, and we went there and matched them and held our own.

“We as a club respect every opponent we play. If I did make changes it would not be a case of me resting and putting a kid in - we have twenty players and they’re all capable of playing for the first team.

“Maybe it will be sensible to give players who have not been playing two or three games before the play offs to have a look at them.”

Ben Mills and Danny North are two players who are likely to be given a chance - North came off the bench to great effect against Northwich but was back on the bench at Droylsden and Law believes he will need time to adjust to the new level after arriving from Grimsby via Scunthorpe.

Meanwhile, following a meeting with Ilkeston Town officials, Derbyshire Police have decided not to segregate fans at this Saturday’s game at the New Manor Ground.
