Dale Pair Head for Tyneside
26 November 2009 14:08:00

Gateshead have signed Rochdale midfielder Clark Keltie and striker Jon Shaw on loan and the pair go straight into the squad for Saturday's Blue Square Premier home game against Crawley Town.

Shaw made his name in the Conference as a free scoring striker for Halifax Town where he scored twenty goals in thirty-seven league games in 2007/08.

The 26-year-old's career began at home-town club Sheffield Wednesday where he made twenty-one appearances, before he spent three years at Burton Albion, making a century of appearances.

With first-team opportunities at Rochdale limited the Yorkshireman has spent productive loan spells at both Crawley Town and Barrow this year

Gateshead manager Ian Bogie, whose side is currently fifth bottom following consecutive promotions, is delighted to increase his options up front.

"We need someone to take the burden off Daryl Clare and Shaw certainly fits the bill," said Bogie "he is a proven goalscorer at this level and I'm delighted to have him on board."

Newcastle-born Keltie, meanwhile, has been on loan at Conference strugglers Chester City for the past two months having joined Rochdale from Darlington in the summer of 2008.

Keltie (pictured) spent seven years at Darlington where he made 173 appearances scoring ten goals, and has impressed on loan at Chester.

"Keltie ran the show for Chester when they beat us at the International Stadium in October," added Bogie "he is a player I have been aware of for some time and is a quality player.

"At 26 he has a wealth of Football League experience and I am sure he will make an impact during his time at Gateshead and help us to climb the table."
