Southport pulled level with Droylsden at the top of Blue Square North following Saturday`s round of matches that saw the Bloods lose at home to mid-table Workington and Port win at AFC Telford United.
In front of a crowd of 1,731, Chris Simm gave Southport the lead at the New Bucks head with 18 minutes gone on the clock.
Five minutes later Ciaran Kilheeney doubled their lead with what turned out to be the only other goal of the game.
Meanwhile, at the Butcher`s Arms, a 7th minute Gareth Arnison effort proved enough for Workington to earn all three points against leaders Droylsden.
