AFC Telford United have raided the Football League for a new striker as they attempt to ignite their Blue Square North challenge.
The Bucks have signed Port Vale forward Steve Thompson on a contract until the end of the season.
The 20-year-old began his career at Middlesbrough, then of the Premier League, where he came through their youth and academy ranks.
He moved to Port Vale at the start of last season and, despite being troubled by a hamstring problem, made seventeen appearances – five as a starter – and scored two goals, including one against Shrewsbury Town.
But he has struggled for football under new Vale boss Micky Adams this term and, after a one-month loan spell with Telford`s league rivals Stafford Rangers, has now agreed to a permanent switch to the New Bucks Head.
Having not played in the FA Cup for Stafford, Thompson will be available for this weekend’s visit of Worcester City in the Third Qualifying Round.
