Fleetwood Prepare Thoroughly
24 October 2009 10:45:00

Fleetwood Town manager Micky Mellon took his squad to the Midlands on Friday ahead of the FA Cup tie against Kidderminster Harriers.

The trip to the Blue Square Premier outfit is the reward for seeing off Blue Square North rivals Farsley Celtic and Vauxhall Motors in earlier rounds.

Mellon said: “Apart from the match preparation, travelling early is a chance for the lads to spend more time together. A stop over is always good for team spirit.”

The manager has carried out his homework against the team where he finished his professional playing days. “We’ve had them watched and I’ve seen our usual scouting report. I’ve also had a word with some of the manager’s who’ve played against Kidderminster this season. That’s given me pretty much all I need to know about them. I know they are a very good side and that’s why they are seventh in the Conference National. We’ll need to be at our very best to make an impact.

Fleetwood sit third in the Blue Square North and will rely on the experience of players who have played at Conference level or higher. “The lads are looking forward the game. It will be a good game of football on what should be a good pitch. We are confident that we will give a good account of ourselves. They’ll give it their best.”

Town’s leading scorer sat our last weekend’s away win at Gloucester City with an ankle injury and will be assessed ahead of Saturday’s kick-off. “Adam, along with Jamie Mullan and Alan Wright, will all be looked at before the game. Our squad has showed in recent weeks that they are capable of stepping in and having an impact on games.”

Mellon is also looking forward to the support of the traveling Cod Army. “I’m sure our supporters will turn up in their numbers. Hopefully we’ll give them something to shout about and a result to take home.”
