Now Wright Joins Crawley
26 August 2010 17:48:00

Crawley Town have confirmed that Peterborough United striker Ben Wright has joined the ambitious Blue Square Bet Premier club for an undisclosed fee.

Wright, 22, has been on loan with league rivals Hayes & Yeading United this season but has been in outstanding goalscoring form, scoring five goals in four matches, thus making him to date this season the top goalscorer in the Blue Square Bet Premier.

The player got himself the matchball after scoring a hat trick in midweek against Forest Green Rovers so he joins up at the Broadfield Stadium and adds more firepower to the Reds` front ranks.

Crawley manager Steve Evans has been in transfer discussions with Peterborough United Director of Football Barry Fry for the last week and late on Wednesday night a transfer fee was finally agreed that allowed young Wright to travel this morning to talk personal terms and complete a thorough medical.

Evans said: ''Ben Wright is a natural goalscorer and a player we look forward to working with, he will compliment the strikers we have.

''I have been speaking with Barry Fry at Peterborough United for over a week but he has not been budging on his valuation, and with young Ben smashing goals in I suppose he has had every right to be like that but we eventually got a fee agreed.

''Ben could have chosen to play his football at a higher level but it would have meant moving up north and he was happy to be joining our project and at the same time moving back home'

“We are sympathetic to Hayes & Yeading, who are losing a good player and after speaking with my directors we offered to assist Garry Haylock with a loan player or two to help soften the blow. I think he appreciated that and we will maybe hear from them shortly.”

Wright said: ''Crawley Town is a club going places and I wanted to be a part of it. I met Steve Evans for the first time this morning and he was so enthusiastic about the season and the club as a whole.

''I know Sergio Torres well and I spoke with him last night about Crawley Town, he gave a glowing reference, after that chat I just wanted to join and I am pleased everything has now been signed.

"I would like to say a special thanks to Peterborough for allowing me to make this move also I would like to thank Hayes and Yeading and Garry Haylock who have been understanding of my decision to join Crawley Town Football Club.

"I believe this is a great move for me and I cannot wait to get stuck in and score some goals."
