Blue Square Bet Premier club Crawley Town have confirmed that manager Steve Evans has made his second new signing of the close season.
Former Chesterfield, Shrewsbury Town and Oldham central defender Danny Hall has completed a medical and put pen-to-paper on a deal that will see him join the Reds for next season.
Hall, 26, has been in discussions with Evans and two other interested clubs over the last few weeks but has decided to sign for Crawley.
Evans was delighted, he said: “Danny Hall is a lad who has impressed me every time I have seen him play. He is very good in the air, something you would expect of a lad at 6'3” but he is also very quick and that is a major asset for any central defender. Pace is also something we identified that we needed at the heart of our defence and we have now got that.
“Two players right at the top of my list have signed for us, its great news but there is a lot more work to be done to get us ready for the challenges we will face next season.
“Danny has good experience for being so young. I have spent a lot of time talking to him over the last two weeks trying to convince him to come here and when the lad telephoned me to say he would sign I was obviously delighted. We have beaten two very good clubs to land his signature and today we move on to our other player targets.
“Our player recruitment is vital, we will once again have a small squad so the players I want to bring in will all be expected to play a big part.”
Hall said: “This was a big decision for me but I have made the right choice. I met three good managers and I felt I could have played for any of them but the gaffer here was really enthusiastic about what he was trying to achieve here and I felt I wanted to be a part of it''.
“I took my time to make this decision but after I spoke with Steve Fletcher my mind was made up. The big fella, who loves a moan, was so complimentary about Crawley Town, the Gaffer and Paul Raynor, that without doubt certainly influenced my decision. Fletch spoke of the team spirit at Crawley, the professionalism of the manager and the quality of the coaching, those were things that were very important to me.
“The gaffer is working hard trying to improve on what was achieved by the team last season but we all know that will not be easy. The lads here did tremendous last season but they will be desperate to improve on that I am sure.
“I saw that Michel Kuipers had signed and he is a quality goalkeeper. I know some of the players the Gaffer is talking too at present, if he gets a couple of those here I am confident we can have a great season.”
