Two More Impressive New Reds
23 June 2010 17:25:00

Blue Square Bet Premier club Crawley Town have confirmed that manager Steve Evans has added two new outstanding players to his squad for the new season.

In follow up to the arrival of three high quality signings, Michel Kuipers, Danny Hall and Steve Masterton, the Reds` boss has now signed striker Liam Enver-Marum and defender Darragh Ryan.

Enver-Marum, 23, will be known to Reds fans, as he spent last season with local rivals Eastbourne Borough.

He led the front line at Boro scoring seventeen goals in all competitions and, of course, the big striker scored a magnificent goal at The Broadfield Stadium on Boxing Day, as his team fought back to share the points.

Enver-Marum has been in discussions with a number of clubs competing for his signature but has now put pen-to-paper to ensure his future is at Crawley.

Marum said: ''I am delighted to be a Red for next season. I have taken my time with this decision, listened carefully to what all the clubs had to say. I see next season as being vital for me and I wanted to join a club who have ambition; I believe I have done that.

“Steve Evans has been speaking to me regularly since the end of last season and made me feel really wanted. I am really excited when I look at the players the manager has signed for next season and if he signs the players he has targeted then it will be very exciting for all of us. The set up is terrific and I cannot wait to get started.''

The second player to join the Reds is left-sided player Darragh Ryan (pictured).

The 30-year-old local recruit has previously played for Crawley as a youngster and has spent time with Brighton & Hove Albion.

In 1999, Ryan signed for Irish side UCD. He made his debut for them at home to Waterford. After a number of years with UCD, he returned to England, where he played for Bognor Regis Town, Worthing and Haywards Heath in his home county of Sussex.

In 2006 he returned to UCD but a year later he signed for Cork City and moved on to St Patrick`s Athletic in 2009, signing for Stevenage Borough last January.

His performances during that period has persuaded the manager to add him to his squad and give Sam Rents his first serious competition for a place in the starting eleven.

Ryan said: ''I am looking forward to the new season big time. The manager is putting an outstanding squad in place and I know he is working hard to add to that, so in turn we can mount a challenge for the play-offs.

“My objective is to be in the starting team on the first day of the season and then keep up a level of performance which will see me become a regular in the team. This is now a very progressive club, we have an excellent management team and a dressing room with good quality players; our objective will be the playoffs and I believe we can achieve it.”

Evans was delighted with the double capture. He said: ''All our summer signings have been hand-picked and it brings some great quality to the squad.

“Liam Enver-Marum is a quality player and it`s fair to say my persistence has prevailed. I have been speaking to the lad since April and he has taken his time to speak to a number of other interested clubs but I kept in touch with him and he has finally joined us.

“He is a big lad and is just the target man we have been looking for. I have watched him numerous times and he will prove to be another quality addition. He knows we will set him the highest of standards but having met him a few times I know how keen he is for the challenge.

“As for Darragh Ryan, he has a great left foot and good awareness defensively. He really wanted to be here; he trained with us and played in our reserves to earn his chance and I am delighted he is here now. He will give us another big option defensively and I am sure young Sam Rents will enjoy the challenge he will get.

“Both lads are excellent signings but we are not finished making quality additions. I would think that in the next week or so we would be looking to add at least another two very good players."
