Two-Year Deal for Clayton
17 February 2010 10:53:00

Alfreton Town striker Paul Clayton has given the Blue Square North club a massive boost by firmly pinning his colours to the Reds' mast and signing a two-year extension to his current contract.

Since joining the club from league rivals Gainsborough Trinity on New Year's Eve, 2008, Clayton, 25, has been in outstandingly consistent form for Alfreton and has hit forty-five goals in 103 appearances so far for the Reds.

He was the club's top scorer last season when his superb form earned him two England `C` caps.
Manager Nicky Law commented: "He is a player we want and he is a big part of what we want to do in our plans to go forward. I am delighted he has signed for another two years."

Nicky Law's side extended their unbeaten league run to eight games with a 2-0 home win over Workington on Tuesday evening.

The usually unsung, yet valuble Josh Law, headed the Reds into the lead on 55 minutes with Paul Clayton celebrating his new conract by sealing the points against one of the division's form teams by powerfully heading the second goal against the Cumbrians.

The victory lifted Alfreton into fourth place and Reds boss Law felt it was one of the best performances of the season from Alfreton.

He reflected: "The whole performance was pleasing. They [Workington] are a form side. They have beat Rushden and Diamonds and AFC Wimbledon to get where they are in the FA Trophy and we knew it was going to be a tough test.

"They came and gave it a good go and made it a tough game. It was a big performance from us.
"We have now just got to keep chipping away and take every game on its merit. All we can do is keep doing our best. This Saturday's home game against Farsley is now the most important game of the season and we have to try and turn eight unbeaten into nine."

Farsley Celtic visit the Impact Arena this Saturday and the Reds will have the chance to record a third league double of the season having won 3-0 at the Throstle Nest on the opening day of the campaign.

Law will be without Anthony Howell for the Farsley game as he begins a two-game suspension for picking up ten cautions so far this season.

He will also miss the crucial trip to Droylsden next Monday.

Also missing for the Farsley Celtic home game will be central defender Matt Wilson, who exited the Workington match after just 9 minutes with an ankle injury which will keep him out for at least a fortnight.

Meanwhile, Derby County`s reserve team fixture against Sheffield United reserves in the totesport.com Reserve Central Division has been rearranged for Wednesday, February 24th at the Impact Arena.

The original game, on February 3rd, was postponed due to a frozen pitch.
