Gateshead Make Three Deadline Day Signings
01 February 2010 17:27:00

Blue Square Premier club Gateshead have brought in three players on deadline day, one on a permanent deal and two on loans until the end of the season.

Combative midfielder Andy Ferrell (pictured) has returned to his native Tyneside from York City to sign an initial one-and-a-half-year deal.

Ferrell, 26, spent a season at Watford after coming through the ranks at home-town club Newcastle and then played for Hereford United and Kidderminster Harriers before joining York.

Left-sided Scunthorpe United player Peter Winn has rejoined Gateshead for a second loan spell that will see the 21-year-old stay at the International Stadium for the remainder of the season.

Winn scored two goals in ten appearances for Gateshead in his first loan spell, including the last-gasp equaliser against Brentford in the FA Cup.

Experienced left-back Paul Heckinbottom, who has made over 300 appearances in the Football League for six clubs, completes the trio of signings.

The Mansfield Town defender, whose career began at Sunderland, has signed a loan deal until the end of the season but will not be allowed to play against his parent club on Saturday.

The 32-year-old Yorkshireman made over a century of appearances for Darlington during a three year period and a similar amount for Bradford City in two spells.

Heckinbottom, who has also played for Norwich City, Sheffield Wednesday and home-town club Barnsley, has made fourteen appearances for Mansfield this season.

The signings have taken the number of new faces brought in during January to six with strikers Daryl Clare and Brian Wake and wide man James Sinclair the first three.

Jamie Harwood and Darren Forsyth, meanwhile, have both left the club and youngster Steven Baptist has joined skilltrainingltd Northern League club Ashington on a month`s loan.

Wide right player Harwood was a key member of the Gateshead side that secured back-to-back promotions and scored thirty-one goals in 132 appearances.

Ireland under-19 international Forsyth has been limited to just two starts and three substitute appearances after joining the club from Bray Wanderers in the summer and will return to his native Ireland.
