Gateshead Sign Attacking Duo
26 January 2010 15:30:00

Gateshead have made a double swoop in the transfer market, with more signings a distinct possibility before the end of the transfer window.

Striker Brian Wake has joined the Tynesiders from Scottish first division club Greenock Morton while attacking wide right player James Sinclair has signed on non-contract terms.

Gateshead also have bids in for three other players while a defender with experience in England, Ireland and Australia is also on the club's radar.

Wake, 27, began his career at skilltrainingltd Northern League club Tow Law Town before he moved into the professional game with Carlisle United in 2002.

He made 57 appearances for the Cumbrians and famously scored a hat-trick at Shrewsbury Town that preserved the Cumbrians Football League status six years ago.

The Teesider then moved into Scottish football spending the 2004-5 season at Gretna where he scored a goal every two games.

His next move was to Scarborough and then back across the border to Hamilton Academical before he switched to Morton, his final appearance coming in the Ton's 1-0 defeat against Celtic in the Scottish Cup a week ago.

"Wake is a player with a proven pedigree who we enquired about in the summer before he signed a one year deal to stay at Morton," said Gateshead manager Ian Bogie.

"He is a hard working target man who can hold the ball up and who will give us a physical presence up front - and he has already proved that he can score important goals."

Sinclair (pictured), 22, spent there years at Bolton Wanderers where he made two substitute appearances, at Chelsea in the Premier League and at Red Star Belgrade in the UEFA Cup.

The Tynesider tried his luck in America following his departure from Bolton in 2009, firstly for Chicago Fire and then San Jose Earthquake.

Hamstring problems however scuppered his chances and, after a recent trial at a top flight club in Norway, he has returned to his native North East.

"Sinclair is a player I have dealt with in the past when he was a teenager," said Bogie "he is a real flying machine and hopefully he'll be available for the rest of the season.

"He can play in a number of positions, including right midfield, and is a player who will increase our options going forward.

"After his release from Bolton last year a move into American football didn't work out for him but, like Wake, he is a good signing for this club.”
