Blue Square North club AFC Telford United have completed the signing of Worcester City central defender Tom Kemp from Blue Square South side Worcester City.
Kemp (above), who will be 23 on Saturday and has captained Worcester this season, arrives at the New Bucks Head on a free transfer and has agreed a deal that will keep him at the club until 2011.
The 6’4” defender won promotion to the Conference with Kettering Town in 2008 and has been earning good reviews for his performances, despite Worcester struggling.
However, as one defender joins, another departs as the Bucks have released central defender Gavin Cowan (right).
The popular Cowan signed on a free transfer in the summer of 2008.
Club chairman Lee Carter said: “We said last week that we had been reviewing many things during the enforced break with a view to not only maintaining a push for play-offs this season but also with one eye on next season. Let me repeat again –there is definitely no white flag on the play-offs.
“We held a meeting with Gavin, explained where we were, and discussed several options going forward. In fairness to him it was far better that he be allowed to sort his future out now rather than wait until the end of the season. There is never a nice way of doing these things – it is difficult for us because you get very close to players whilst they are here and it is difficult for the player because they are treated very well whilst they are here and it is a great place to play football.
“Gavin has served the club very well and I am sure that supporters will commend him for that. ”
