Monday`s Blue Square Premier Review...
28 December 2009 18:21:00

A last-gasp Chris Todd header for struggling Salisbury City denied Oxford United the chance to stretch their lead at the top of the Blue Square Premier table on Monday.

Chris Wilder's men looked on course for a sixth straight league win when substitute Onome Sodje struck his first goal for the club with just 11 minutes left.

The Barnsley loanee headed home Adam Chapman's free-kick from close range. But Todd levelled from Sean Clohessy's left-wing cross.

A bumper Raymond McEnhill Stadium crowd of 2,677 was boosted by some 1,000-plus travelling fans, who were left frustrated at the end.

However, second-placed Stevenage Borough were held to a goalless draw at Broadhall Way by play-off shasing AFC Wimbledon.

Mansfield Town strengthened their play-off credentials with a hard-fought victory over Cambridge United at Field Mill.

The Stags broke the deadlock through Kyle Perry in the 27th minute but the U's drew level 3 minutes before the half time break, thanks to Chris Holroyd.

However, it was the home side who had the last say when Jake Speight popped up in the 73rd minute to clinch the win for David Holdsworth's side.

Kettering Town slipped out of the play-off places after being edged out by Histon at the Glassworld Stadium.

Adam Tann put the home side ahead with a 59th minute strike and it turned out to be enough to claim all the points on the day.

Eastbourne Borough's six-game unbeaten run came to an end as they went down 4-1 at Luton Town, who are now just three points off a play-off spot.

Boro took the lead in the 6th minute when Matt Crabb exchanged passes with Simon Johnson before firing a shot through the legs of Kevin Pilkington from just inside the area.

The lead lasted just 3 minutes though as Tom Craddock drove a cross across the face of goal and Matt Barnes-Homer got the decisive touch.

Craddock was the creator again in the 19th minute as Luton took the lead. His shot was saved by Danny Knowles but Kevin Gallen was on hand to tap home the rebound.

Luton made it 3-1 with a carbon copy of the second goal. This time Barnes-Homer's shot was saved by Knowles and Gallen once again took advantage to stab home the loose ball.

And the Hatters wrapped up the win in the 75th minute when Rossi Jarvis was allowed to turn on the edge of the area before firing a shot inside the far post.

Rushden & Diamonds inched closer towards the play-off places thanks to a Lee Tomlin brace at Nene Park against managerless Kidderminster Harriers.

Tomlin opened the scoring after 15 minutes and doubled his tally in the 57th minute.

Robbie Matthews pulled one back for the visitors in the 68th minute but the Harriers were unable to fashion an equaliser.

Crawley Town striker Charlie Ademeno scored a sensational hat trick in the first 6 minutes as they won 3-2 at struggling Grays Athletic.

Ademeno put his side ahead in the 2nd minute when he turned in Calum Willock's low cross.

Ademeno then capitalised on a mix-up in the heart of the home defence before rounding goalkeeper Preston Edwards to make it 2-0.

And a minute later he completed his hat trick after Preston had palmed out a header from Willock.

It looked like being a stroll for the visitors but Grays showed plenty of spirit to pull two goals back before half time.

Jamie Reid converted a 22nd minute penalty after Fola Onibuje was brought down by Karl Broadhurst.

And 2 minutes before the break Onibuje's header from Reid's cross gave Simon Rayner no chance.

Sam Rents cleared a header from Onibuje off the line and Willock's free header was saved by Preston during a hectic first half.

The second half was an anti-climax with few chances at either end as the effects of two games in 48 hours took their toll.

Hayes & Yeading United moved further away from the drop zone with a comfortable 4-2 victory over Ebbsfleet United at Church Road.

Craig Watkins put the home side ahead with a 36th minute effort and Steve Basham bagged two goals in the space of 5 minutes to put the hosts in a commanding position.

Brazilian frontman Magno Vieira pulled one back for Fleet in the 84th minute but Esmond James restored his side's three-goal lead just 2 minutes later.

Scott Ginty found the back of the net in injury-time but it was a case of too little, too late for the visitors.

Forest Green Rovers carried on their decent Christmas form by holding Tamworth to a goalless draw at The Lamb, making it four points from their two matches over the festive period and a move to fourth-bottom, just two points from twentieth-placed Eastbourne Borough.

Monday`s games at Altrincham and neighbouring Chester City were both postponed because of frozen pitches, joining the earlier postponement at Gateshead.
