Blue Square North club Eastwood Town have signed experienced midfielder Jay Smith on a short-term deal.
London-born Smith, 28, started his career with Aston Villa but was transferred to Southend United in 2002 without making a senior appearance for Villa.
He quickly became a regular in the Blues side but a horrendous spell of injuries, including a broken ankle, interrupted his career.
Towards the end of the 2005/06 season, Smith was loaned out to Oxford United and, despite impressing then manager Jim Smith during the run-in, it was not enough to save Oxford from dropping out of the League.
In January 2007 Smith was released by Southend and made a permanent switch to Notts County after a successful two-month loan spell.
After making fifty-two appearances for the Magpies he was released from his contract in January 2009 five months early along with current Boston United striker Spencer Weir-Daley.
Eastwood boss Paul Cox said: “Jay is hoping to get back into League football so while we help him try to do that, he’ll be helping us out by bringing good experience to the midfield.
