Comprehensive Win in the End for Celtic
09 December 2009 10:42:00

Stalybridge Celtic moved into fourth place in the Blue Square North table after a comprehensive 4-1 win over Gloucester City at Bower Fold on Tuesday night.

However, Celtic had to come back from the shock of going behind after 24 minutes when Jack Pitcher was put through one-on-one with Dave Carnell, and though John Hardiker got back to push him wide, Carnell reached for the ball, missed and brought down the City striker.

Lee Smith tucked away the resultant spot-kick.

After 37 minutes the home side pulled level when Matty Barlow scored with a cheeky back-heel.

But it took until the 65th minute for Steve Burr`s side to go ahead when Dave Hankin fired past the outstretched hand of Mike Green.

Six minutes later it was 3-1 when Joe O’Neill drove the ball home and John Hardiker headed in number four 10 minutes later to make it even more emphatic.
