Hockaday Swoops for Ameobi
25 September 2009 11:01:00

David Hockaday has moved again ahead of Forest Green Rovers` next Blue Square Premier fixture against Grays Athletic to bolster his striking capabilities by signing 21-year-old Tomi Ameobi.

Ameobi comes from a well known footballing family with their roots in his place of birth of Newcastle-upon-Tyne.

Commencing as a trainee with Leeds United, he made ten appearances on loan at Scunthorpe United before he joined Doncaster Rovers for the 2008/09 season on a one-year contract.

At the Keepmoat Stadium he only chalked up one game under Sean O’Driscoll before spending loan periods at Grimsby Town and Mansfield Town.

Released by Doncaster at the end of July this year, he has of late been playing with Bradford City on a non-contract basis and scored the winner last Tuesday evening in their local derby against Huddersfield in the Central League – sadly though in his own net.

Ameobi at 6’ 3” gives Hockaday another opportunity to continue his search to find a suitable frontman to lead Rovers as they seek their first win of the season.

Although pleased by an unbeaten run since he took charge two weeks ago, Hockaday has earmarked a long-term striking solution, with the ability to fit in with his current changing squad and who can consistently find the back of the net, as one of his two major priorities by the end of September.
